| Abstract: | Interview of Amal Dutta. He was the General Secretary of the Electro-Steel Mazdoor Union at Kharda, Bengal, Calcutta. Born in Bangladesh, he initially was active in unionisation in the Titagarh Paper Mills, when still a student. After studies, worked in tramways for some time, and agitated against the increase in fare. At the same time, he joined the Bhartiya Iron and Steel Workers Union. In 1958-59 campaigned successfully against the policy of divide-and-rule of the Management, through introduction of separate holidays for Bengali and Bihari workers. |
